The Changing Face of dentistry.
It's a popular myth that people don't like visiting the dentist. However, research carried out for the British Dental Association by Harris Research shows that 7 in 10 people don't mind going with nearly half describing themselves as "perfectly happy" to go. Only one in ten people are actually dentally phobic.
Levels of tooth decay have fallen dramatically since the early 1970s principally due to the introduction of fluoride toothpastes and the emphasis of dentistry is increasingly on prevention. People no longer expect to have fillings or extractions each time they go to a dentist and can expect to keep their teeth for life if they look after them properly and visit a dentist regularly. A Harris poll for the BDA found that over 8 in 10 people believe they look after their teeth well.
